Here’s Your Assignment: Imagine that your best friend or a relative is considering enlisting in the military. Write a letter of not more than 1500 words to the person.

What concerns would you express to that person? What factors do you think the person should consider before deciding whether to enlist? What questions should he or she be asking? What people and sources of information should he or she consult? What would you do if you were in that person’s shoes? Your letter should show that you can imagine the needs and pressures that are motivating the person to consider enlisting. What alternatives to military service might the person be wise to consider?

IMPORTANT: Before writing your letter, read or view the resources provided on this blog site. You may also consult other resources of your choice. Demonstrate your own critical thinking about the information available, pro or con, concerning military service and how it can affect a person for better or worse.

Entries will be judged on the quality of expression, the accuracy of information, and depth of thought reflected.
